Introducing Farquhar Singapore
The last two months have brought me closer to reaching my goal – not to work a day in my life! By that I mean if you love what you do, then it doesn’t feel like work.
Introducing Farquhar Singapore! My luxury tie and pocket square company.
Fabrics are designed by me, printed on the finest silk twill in China then sent to my Singapore based studio where they are hand made.
My journey of finding the perfect silk twill fabric weight with the right amount of bias stretch, the best printer that will capture all the minute details, quality packaging that oozes class and a website designer that can emulate the clean and professionalism of Hermes, Gucci and Prada, was a roller coaster!
The process started while looking for a quality tie for my upcoming boss’ 40th birthday. I ended up paying $200 for a mediocre design, for something that wasn’t sewn to my standards and to justify the hefty price tag, with packaging that was out dated and plain boring. If you charge that amount, a nice box should at least be provided.
I have a background in Fashion and Textile design studying at the renowned East Sydney and Ultimo TAFE. So why not have a go and try myself. I have the skills!
Sometimes the stars align and they align perfectly! My job was no longer fulfilling me like it used to and partner’s company had asked us to move overseas to the new head office based in Singapore. So moving to Singapore it was to be.
I set myself up full time in Singapore to finally start my own company.
I have definitely learnt patience, take each day as it comes, cry if you need to and take time to have proper breaks during the day. Working for yourself is tough to start with but it’s worth it in the end. Having reached a point to putting in final orders, I’ll be looking to start selling in 6-8 weeks.
